Types of Thong
On this website, Skimpy Sexy Thongs, we’re all about the thong and its different incarnations. Whenever you hear someone mention the word thong, there’s no doubt what kind of underwear immediately comes to mind. But like almost anything in life, the truth is that there’s quite a variety of styles that fall within that category, and many different panties can rightfully be referred to as thongs. They each have their own identity, and appeal to slightly different audiences. While your comfort level may not be high enough for you to wear a g-string bikini, you might feel totally comfortable rocking a t-string. It’s all relative.
The G-string:
This is the most popular type of thong among men. No wonder, since it’s, by far, the one with the least amount of coverage. When people refer to “butt floss”, they are picturing a g-string. The g-string is a narrow front piece of triangle-shaped cloth (which can sometimes barely cover the pubic area), that passes between the legs, with thin strings that go up around the hips and between the butt cheeks. The back is just a string band.
The Tanga:
If you’re concerned about front coverage, the tanga might be a better choice for you. Contrary to the G-string, your pubic area is completely covered; the back is also somewhat different in that the material goes higher, curving up a few inches above the butt and sitting squarely on your hips. In short, the tanga exposes the bottom of the butt cheeks, but covers everything else. It looks very good on curvy women.
The Thong:
Although its name has become sort of generic, the member of the thong family that is actually called a thong offers more coverage than the g-string (but less than a tanga). There’s a decent amount of material in the front, commonly in a triangle shape, and a strip of fabric of varying widths to cover the backside or at least try to!
The V-string:
This variation of the thong family is just an aesthetic thing. The part of the thong that goes up the butt cheeks separates into a V, to go around the hips. You’ll mostly come across it in swimsuits, and the front coverage is only slightly more than what a g-string offers. Even then, the difference is essentially made at the back, not at the front.
The T-Back:
This thong, also known as a t-string, sits high on the hips, and as such offers plenty of front coverage. The wide waistband going around the back doesn’t conform to the curve of the hips, but rather goes straight around them. The T shape is made where said waistband meets the part of the thong that disappears into the butt cheeks. From the back, the straps resemble the letter “T.”
The Rio:
The Rio is also sometimes referred to as a ’starter thong’. In case you’re not sure whether thongs are for you, or you don’t know whether or not you’ll feel comfortable wearing them, or you think g-strings are a bit too much, then this thong offers a gentle initiation into the world of sexy panties. The Rio is similar to the t-back, except the side straps rise above the hips. It sort of looks like high cut bikini briefs more than anything else, and can provide a nice transition towards thongs with less coverage…
As you can see, there’s enough variety in the thong world for you to comfortably choose which style to wear, if you’re so inclined.
